“As a little girl I can remember looking at my dad and thinking he was my everything, he was my friend, my hero and there was nothing my dad couldn't do. My Dad was born with a disability but I never seen that. He could do just about anything anyone else's daddy could do. I will always treasure the moments we shared together. I was his little side kick, a daddy's girl for sure.
My best memories of my dad were fishing with him. He taught me how to bait the hook and remove the hook when I caught a fish because I always told him we had to release the fish back into the water. I remember being on his little green John boat and being so afraid the boat would tip over, he would smile and assure me that I was safe and I wouldn't fall in the water. I can remember going to My Aunt Debbie's and Uncle Bruce house and digging for worms in their backyard for the next mornings fishing trip. We would go to bed early and get up before the sun came up and start loading the car and the boat with all the food and fishing gear. Those were the best days with my dad. I will forever hold those memories close to my heart.
My father was a stubborn, hardworking and caring man that would give the shirt off his back if you needed it. He wasn't the oldest of six kids but was like a father to his 4 brothers and sister. Whenever they needed him he was there. My dad was a very proud man and never used his disability as an excuse for anything. If anything having that disability made him the person he was.
He loved people and they loved him, even when the doctor's said Roger you have a year to live. He didn't let that break his spirit. He fought every step of the way. He didn't know how not to fight. I will forever remember the courage and strength he showed not only in the last few months of his life but the strength he has shown all of his life. He was my hero, my superman, my everything. He will forever be loved and missed by everyone that had the honor to know him and call him a friend. Forever in our hearts, love you Daddy”
