MCCARTHY, JAMES L.
On Thursday, November 21, 2019, James "Jim" L. McCarthy, passed away of natural causes in Hagerstown, MD and leaves behind a wife and two children. Jim was a decorated military service member serving his country as both an enlisted member and as an officer. Jim wanted to continue to serve here at home during the height on the war on drugs, as a result, he had to resign his commission so that he could serve as a First Sergeant with a duty position listed as the National Guard Liaison--assigned to the Maryland State Police Narcotics Division.
Jim became a critical and valuable member of the Frederick County Narcotics Task Force. Jim began teaching intelligence and how to use it in all phases of law enforcement. Jim was beloved and respected as a member of the Task Force. After Jim completed his military career with the National Guard, Jim was not quite finished serving his country, so, Jim served as a civilian for the federal government.
Jim is an American Patriot that the American Public can never fully understand his sacrifice and loyalty to all of us. We sleep safely in our homes because of unnamed and unassuming heroes like, Jim McCarthy.
Viewing will be private. A brief chapel service and interment will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at 2:30 PM at Maryland Veterans Cemetery Crownsville, located at 1122 Sunrise Beach Rd, Crownsville, MD 21032. Services will include military honors.
